Tracking an extreme temperature swing that brings snow tonight

TUESDAY: Partly Cloudy skies and south winds keep us warm today. Continued warming pushes temperatures back into the 80s again today, with likely another record breaking day on tap. Severe storm chances are continuing to look best just east of us. Stay weather aware if you're headed to St. Louis or further east this afternoon, but we likely miss out on any storm action locally. A strong cold front will fire storms to our east this evening, while simultaneously plummeting our temperatures.

TONIGHT: We will see rain with the front, but they are weak showers that quickly turn to snow tonight. This snow will be enough to bring grassy accumulations up to a half inch or maybe locally one inch. Outside of wet roads and possibly some slushy spots, travel should largely be unimpacted. Expect to scrape your windshield though, as temperatures starting in the low 20s will have any accumulations frozen.

EXTENDED: Wednesday morning will be a sharp difference compared to Tuesday's warmth. Temperatures are expected in the 20s, with wind chills in the teens and single digits. Temperatures only reach 30s for highs on Wednesday. By Thursday, we are back on the warm up, with temperatures reaching near 50 under partly cloudy skies. Clouds and chances for showers increase Thursday night into Friday morning. Most of Friday looks dry and mild, with highs near 60. We enjoy a return to 70s over the weekend, which will likely last into Monday.
