Missouri State Highway Patrol investigating Sedalia officer-involved shooting
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two Sedalia police officers are recovering Sunday after an altercation with an armed suspect ended in gunfire.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Sedalia Police Department were dispatched for a disturbance call in the 1000 block of State Fair Blvd. Two officers encountered James H. Kreisel, 28, of Sedalia armed with a knife, according to a post on X from Troop A with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the post, an altercation occurred between the officers and Kreisel, and both officers were wounded. During the fight, shots were fired, hitting Kreisel. He was pronounced dead at the scene and both officers were taken to a local hospital.

ABC 17 News spoke with Sedalia resident, Avery Evans who was in the area of the shooting outside of Town House Manor Apartments off State Fair Blvd. "And I saw them (police officers) get out and start to look around and then a third cop came, and he ran across where the other police officers were," said Evans. "And then I heard multiple gunshots. And then I saw another police officer running to go get like a MedPAC or something. And then more cops came and an ambulance came and they were out here for a few hours."
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop A Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the officer-involved shooting at the request of the Sedalia Police Chief. This is an ongoing investigation.
ABC 17 News reach out to Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F public information officer Sgt. Kyle Green about the process of an officer involved shooting investigation. Green says that the MSHP's Division of Drug and Crime control would be deployed to only investigate the shooting, not what warranted the officers involvement.
"They'll arrive on scene, they'll collect any physical evidence that is there," says Green. "They will interview the individuals involved and witnesses. They will collect video, whether it's body worn cameras, whether it's from a patrol car or maybe a business or something like that, or a residence and review that footage as well."
A follow-up post to X states that both officers have been released from the hospital and Kreisel's next of kin have been notified.

ABC 17 News contacted the Sedalia Police Department for a statement, and they said one should be announced on Monday.
