Jefferson City Council doesn’t approve bids, yard waste services discontinued

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Council in a closed session on Tuesday decided not to move forward on proposals that would have provided subsidized yard waste services to residents, according to a Thursday release from the city.

A temporary yard waste drop-off site in Jefferson City closed for the season last month. There were 2,161 loads of yard waste dropped off at the site from November through January, according to data from the city. The city said in the press release that it reviewed proposals for a permanent site from Federal Recycling and Republic Services, but neither were deemed cost-effective.

“The remaining funding allocated for yard waste services will be reviewed by Council for future appropriations,” the release says.

 The city allows open burning of yard waste during daylight hours from Nov. 1-March 1. Fires must be attended at all times with a means of extinguishment readily available, the release says.
