Snow makes roads slick around Central Missouri
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Snow led to slick roads around Mid-Missouri starting around midday Friday and troopers were called to nearly 70 crashes.
The Missouri Department of Transportation traveler information map showed Highway 63 covered from southern Cole County north to the state line. Other major state highways such as Interstate 70 and Highway 54 were partially covered.
Authorities in Cole County said at about 11:30 a.m. that the 1100 and 1200 block of Southwest Boulevard had become impassable.
"Troopers are responding to numerous crashes and slide offs throughout Troop F, including multiple injury crashes and one fatality crash in Morgan County," the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. "Counties with the most calls for service are: Cole, Callaway, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau, and Osage."

Columbia Public Works said Thursday that plow drivers would begin a 12-hour shift at 6 a.m.
Much of Mid-Missouri remained under a winter weather advisory until 3 p.m. for up to 3 inches of snow. A trace to a few hundredths of an inch had accumulated by about 11:30 a.m., according to the Stormtrack Weather Team.
A Weather Alert Day remained in place through mid-afternoon.
