Chiefs hope history repeats itself in Super Bowl rematch with 49ers
LAS VEGAS, Nevada. (KMIZ)
Four years ago, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV to secure their first Super Bowl title in 50 years. Four years later, those two teams will battle again on football's biggest stage.
The rematch was a notable topic during Super Bowl week press conferences and interviews. While there are some players and coaches on both rosters that experienced that February night in Miami, the Chiefs and 49ers also have some new faces. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid highlighted how San Francisco's additions of quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey have made them an even more talented team than they were four years ago. Purdy was an NFL MVP finalist, and McCaffrey was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year.
"[The 49ers] played at a very high level then. I think they're even better now," Reid said. "McCaffrey is new. I'd say he's a big ingredient, and the quarterback's new, and he's a heck of a football player."
The Chiefs are searching for their third Super Bowl title in five seasons while the 49ers hope to win their first ring since 1995.
