Tracking some sun for Super Bowl Sunday and snow potential
TONIGHT: I'm tracking quiet conditions for mid-Missouri with upper level clouds sticking around. Temperatures will cool into the low 30s with the help of winds from the northeast at 5-10 mph.
TOMORROW: I'm tracking breaks in this cloud cover for Super Bowl Sunday resulting in sunshine peaking through. Winds will still be from the northeast at 5-10 mph which will make it feel cooler than it actually is. Since central Missouri will be in this northeast flow, temperatures will only climb into the mid to upper 40s.
EXTENDED: I'm tracking a system moving through parts of Missouri late Sunday night into Monday morning bringing the potential for snow. The highest amounts locally will be in the I-44 corridor, with any potential for accumulation dropping off significantly as you move further north. The limiting factors will be borderline freezing air temperatures and the fact that the ground will still be well above freezing throughout this event. Counties in our viewing area that are close to the I-44 region could observe a trace to 2" of accumulation as of now, but there is a narrow band of heavier snow associated with this. This narrow band has the potential for accumulations exceeding 4". This is most likely in areas closest to I-44 and further to the southeast. In the I-70 region and further north, there is little to no chance of accumulation. After this event, the sky will clear up and temperatures will be trending up once again. On Valentine's Day, mid-Missouri can expect temperatures to be in the mid to upper 50s.
