COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
More than 1,200 Columbia utility customers in west Columbia were without power on Tuesday afternoon.
Power was restored by 2:53 p.m. According to the Columbia Power and Light outage map, there were 1,259 outages reported at 2:25 p.m., 1,244 of which was reported in a neighborhood west of Scott Boulevard and south of Rainbow Trout Drive. The remaining 15 outages were unrelated to that outage, according to a city utility spokesman.
“There was an issue with a lightning arrester -- which shields lines from power surges like lightning,” Columbia Utilities spokesman Matt Nestor wrote in an email to ABC 17 News.
