COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility has canceled curbside trash pickup for Friday and Saturday, according to a press release from the city.

The release states that pickup is canceled because of dangerous cold temperatures that are expected to enter the area. Friday’s air temperature has a high of 11 degrees and low of 3, Saturday is a high of 14 and a low of minus-3, with wind chills expected.

Normal Monday routes were canceled earlier this week because of the extreme cold. Because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, residential curbside collections were already delayed by one day. This cancelation will affect Thursday customers who were scheduled for Friday and Friday customers who were scheduled for Saturday, the release states.

The department wrote that it expects to be back on its normal daily schedule next week.

The release also states that drop-off recycling centers with have “minimal service” on Friday and Saturday.
