Tracking light snow and another blast of arctic air tonight

TODAY: It's another mild day ahead, with warmth that moved in on Wednesday, sticking around. We'll have highs in the mid-to-upper 30s, ahead of an arctic cold front that returns this evening. Winds through the day will remain light and southerly, until around the dinner hour, when the arctic front drops in and ushers in a northerly wind and a sharp cool down.

TONIGHT: With this arctic front comes snow showers. These will favor our northern communities, bringing potential for an Inch north of I-70, with a trace the most likely amount near Columbia and southward. Temperatures falling will be the greatest impact. Expect lows near zero by early Friday.

EXTENDED: Friday and Saturday are both ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days for dangerous cold. Friday, highs climb to near 10 degrees. Wind chills may fall as far as 20 below Friday morning, and remain subzero through the day. Expect clouds on Friday, with more sunshine on Saturday. This won't help much on Saturday, with highs still only in the teens, with still dangerous wind chills. The core of the arctic high pressure that brings this cold, will slide by Saturday night, putting us back in southerly flow on Sunday. Expect 30s and some sunshine on Sunday, but high clouds will return ahead of another rain chance on Monday. Yes, we're expecting this to fall as rain, however, given surface temperatures below freezing early Monday, timing will determine whether or not we need to worry about freezing rain and ice. Should Monday morning turn icy, it won't last long. Temperatures will warm above freezing through the day. Rain continues on Tuesday, with little potential for temperatures below freezing as moisture and southerly flow sticking around. Highs are forecast in the 40s Tuesday through midweek.
