Five people killed on Missouri roads over New Year’s weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated in a Tuesday release that five people were killed in crashes statewide over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
MSHP began counting crash data from 6 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday. One of the five deaths occurred Saturday in Columbia. The Columbia Police Department previously stated in a Sunday press release that Brady Ewing was killed in the crash. He was 55.
According to the Sunday release from CPD, a Honda Civic was going westbound on East Broadway near First Street when the pedestrian was walking eastbound in the turn lane. The release states Ewing was hit when he walked into the passing lane of westbound traffic.
In addition to the five traffic deaths, there were 345 injured and 925 crashes statewide, the release states. Troopers investigated 155 crashes, 59 traffic injuries, three fatalities and arrested 139 people for DWI.
According to MSHP data, Troop F -- which covers much of the Mid-Missouri area – responded to four crashes with seven injuries (none serious) and no fatalities. Troop F made 34 arrests over the counting period, including 19 related to DWI and six for minors in possession of alcohol, the data shows.
