Tracking rain tonight and the return of cold over the weekend

TODAY: Warmth sticks around for one more day, as we'll start Friday in the upper 40s and low 50s. Winds have continued from the south overnight, albeit at lower speeds. After temperatures reached the upper 60s on Thursday, we expect Friday to be cooler, but still warm, with a forecast of low 60s. Increasing clouds, and afternoon showers will work to keep us from warming as far. Rain returns first for those in the west. Showers will develop ahead of the cold front in the afternoon. Rain will likely be light and scattered into the evening, before the front passes through the region in the 6-11 p.m. time frame. There's potential for this front to stir up a line of better rainfall and a chance at some thunder. We do not expect severe weather, but there's just enough instability for the front to use to generate locally moderate rainfall. Those who see rain from both the pre-frontal showers and the front itself have a chance at a quarter of an inch or more, with less expected in most places. The best chance for these higher totals is currently north of a line from Sedalia to Mexico.

TONIGHT: Rain will wrap up close to midnight, with little in the way of lingering moisture expected. We will have dry and cool air rush in, to drop temperatures into the 30s by Saturday morning.

EXTENDED: Clouds stick around, keeping us mostly cloudy on Saturday. This and north wind keeps our high forecast in the 40s. More sunshine returns on Sunday, but a deep cool down under clear skies on Sunday morning sets our morning temperatures into the 20s, which will be a setback for temperatures in the afternoon as well, keeping Sunday's highs near 40. We're more mild around midweek, with dry weather and highs expected in the mid-40s.
