Biden seizes a chance to refocus on Asia as wars rage in Europe and the Mideast

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — With wars raging in Europe and the Middle East, it can be hard for President Joe Biden to focus on Asia, even though that was his original foreign policy goal. However, he had a rare opportunity to demonstrate American commitment to the region during an annual summit for Asian leaders that was hosted this year in San Francisco. He met with several of his counterparts and outlined a vision of friendship and collaboration. His most important meeting was with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The encounter overshadowed the rest of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, and it produced agreements on curbing fentanyl and improving dialogue.
