A Jefferson City man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman on a walking trail in May.

Jacob Beul, 26, pleaded guilty on Thursday to first-degree sexual abuse, according to an email from Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson. His sentencing hearing is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Cole County Circuit Court. Thompson said Beul’s sentencing is likely to be between three-to-10 years.

Beul was initially charged with first-degree attempted rape and first-degree attempted sodomy.

According to previous reporting, court documents stated Beul made contact with a woman on May 8 on a walking trail at Binder Park and asked if he could walk with her, which she agreed. The two did not know each other. The two began walking down the trail and Beul allegedly began touching the victim and told her she was “sexy.”

Beul then allegedly pulled his genitalia out and tried to push down on the victim's shoulders to try to make her to perform oral sex, court documents stated. The victim tried to back away but Beul grabbed her again. The victim told Beul she did not want to do anything sexual, according to the probable cause statement. Beul then allegedly tried to talk her into going into his vehicle for intercourse.

She eventually contacted law enforcement the same day.

Beul was eventually detained by police on Business 50 West. Beul allegedly told law enforcement that he didn’t have a reason for his actions and then proceeded to cry, according to the probable cause statement.
