Mizzou Athletics set to present plan for multiple facility upgrades to UM Board of Curators
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Athletics revealed that it is working on a tentative plan to develop facilities that would impact every sport on campus and would also feature a reimagined north end zone at Faurot Field, on Monday evening.
The master plan is set to be presented to the UM Board of Curators on Nov. 16. In that meeting, Mizzou will be seeking approval to proceed with the plan.
Athletics Director Desiree Reed-Francois and company hired a Kansas City-based architecture firm, Populous, to help develop the plan for the updated facilities. That plan includes the construction of several new competition venues and practice facilities, as well as an update to the north concourse at Memorial Stadium.
"I want to thank the Board and President [Mun] Choi for their incredible support and belief in Mizzou Athletics and in our envisioning of a facilities master plan," Reed-Francois said in a press release. "As part of our Mizzou Athletics strategic plan that wee shared with the Board, we sought a facilities master plan that would transform the Sports Park. We know that many of our athletics programs have facility needs, and through this collaboration and our facility viability assessments, we have developed a thoughtful plan that will benefit current and future student-athletes."
Mizzou Athletics assessed its standing facilities with the help of the global professional service firm Huron. MU said the firm helped identify areas that could be invested in to further the department's level of achievement.
"There is no doubt our intercollegiate athletics programs uniquely impact the University by enhancing the experience of our Mizzou student body and increasing the engagement of our 357,000 alumni throughout the country and the entire state of Missouri," UM System President Mun Choi said in a press release. "With the Board's committed support and Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois's leadership and strategic vision, we will make the investments necessary for Mizzou become a national leader in intercollegiate sports."
