Horses die, driver injured in north Boone County crash on Highway 63

Traffic is backed up in the southbound lane of Highway 63 near Mc Hatton Road on Friday. Two horses were killed in the crash and one person was injured.

Two horses were killed and one person was injured in a Friday crash in the southbound lanes of Highway 63 near Mc Hatton Road.

According to Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp, the crash involved two vehicles: A tractor trailer rear-ended a horse trailer.

The driver of the tractor trailer was injured, according to Blomenkamp.

Boone County Joint Communications stated on its social media that both lanes were shut down at 3:24 p.m. By 4:35 p.m., only the southbound lane was shut down.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the crash occurred when a 2022 Ford F350 – driven by Christoper Collier, 27, of Jackson -- was slowing to turn right on a private road when a 2016 Peterbilt tractor trailer – driven by Eric Anderson, 23, of Sturgeon -- rear-ended the trailer the Ford was towing.

Anderson suffered moderate injuries, according to the report, and was brought to University Hospital by ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Collier had no reported injuries and it is not known if he was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.
