Mizzou football team ranked for first time in Eli Drinkwitz era
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
For the first time since 2019, the Mizzou football team found itself in the AP Top-25 on Sunday afternoon. The poll put MU at No. 23 following the Tigers' best start to the season since 2013.
It is the first time that head coach Eli Drinkwitz has had an AP Top-25 ranked team in Columbia. MU previously jumped into the Top-25 in 2019, following a win against Ole Miss in Columbia when former head coach Barry Odom was at the helm of the program.
Mizzou also found itself ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The committee put the Tigers at No. 22, on Sunday.
Drinkwitz and company are 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 2013, when the group made it to the SEC Championship game. The Tigers have beaten South Dakota, Middle Tennessee State University, then-No. 15 Kansas State and Memphis to start 2023.
The most recent win against Memphis came at the Dome at America's Center in downtown St. Louis on Saturday night. The 34-27 win was highlighted by another big performance from starting quarterback Brady Cook. The St. Louis-native went 18-for-25 for 341 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Tigers will hope to keep the momentum rolling with the team's first true road trip of the season. No. 23 Mizzou will open up the SEC slate against Vanderbilt on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
