Mizzou star defensive lineman holds first annual book back drive in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou standout defensive lineman Darius Robinson held his first annual book back drive on Saturday at Second Baptist Church in downtown Columbia.

Robinson provided 100 book bags to kids ages kindergarten through 12th grade, plus the event included face paintings, prizes, hair cuts, snacks and more.

"You're taking your blessings and giving them to others without anything in return," Robinson said. "Seeing my teammates come out and seeing all the kids that I can impact is very important and I hope we can continue to do stuff like this in this space."

"We're blessed to be a blessing," said head coach Eli Drinkwitz, "I think it's just an attitude of gratitude. For student athletes, it's the best they've ever had it and it's going to continue to get better."

Robinson is going into his fifth and final season as a Tiger. He said he's very thankful to be able to give back to the community that has given him to much throughout the last several years.

"I tell people all the time, I'm from Michigan and Missouri because this is really my home and I'm just glad I could give back to this community," Robinson said.

The Mizzou football team wrapped up week two of fall camp on Saturday. Robinson said the chemistry is already starting to build.

"It's been highly competitive and the team is really starting to come together under tough circumstances, it's the dog days and we're starting to build up what we're going to be this year," Robinson said.
