Prosecutors filed felony charges on Thursday for a Columbia man accused of shooting another man on June 21 the 900 block of Jewell Avenue.

Latreon S. Fulton, 20, is charged with second-degree assault and armed-criminal action. He is not listed on the Boone County Jail roster. A warrant was ordered Thursday and a no bond was set. A court date has not been set.

Columbia police were dispatched on June 21 to a house on Jewell Avenue and found a man with a gunshot wound in chest, according to the probable cause statement. The victim was brought to University Hospital.

On July 10, police interviewed the victim, who gave a nickname of Fulton, the statement says. Police showed a Department of Revenue photo of Fulton and the victim identified him by shaking his head, the statement says.

The victim allegedly told police that Fulton was handed a gun and Fulton allegedly said, “this me,” which meant Fulton was keeping the gun, the statement says. The victim allegedly tried to confront Fulton about keeping the gun. He was then shot, the statement says.
