COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was charged Tuesday with four felonies after a pregnant woman's killing north of town.

Capt. Brian Leer, of the Boone County Sheriff's Office, said deputies responded to the 4800 block of Clearview Road in Boone County just before 7:30 a.m. for an assault.

Deputies found a dead pregnant 27-year-old woman who had an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

Sevance Brewer, 31, of Columbia, was identified as a suspect. He was arrested in Columbia, according to a social media post from the sheriff's office. He is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.

Prosecutors charged Brewer with two counts of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and illegal gun possession.

The incident was likely a domestic violence situation, Leer said.

Brewer told investigators he shot the victim as he unholstered his gun during an argument with her, according to a probable cause statement. He then allegedly watched her fall against the wall before leaving the home with the gun, according to doorbell video footage. Two children between 3 and 4 years old were at the home, according to the statement.

Investigators found the gun under a rock in a creek bed at Again Street Park, according to the statement.

Court documents obtained by ABC 17 News state Brewer has previous domestic assault charges from 2019 and 2021, "in which the victim appears to be the same as the victim in the present case."

In 2019, Boone County Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance where Brewer allegedly had been arguing with the victim, grabbed her by the neck, threw her on the floor and squeezed around her neck until she passed out.

He pleaded guilty to fourt-degree domestic assault on Jan. 15, 2020. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, but eventually served 30 days in jail after probation was revoked on April 4, 2022.

In 2021, deputies responded to an assault where Brewer allegedly pushed the victim to the ground, hit her in the eye and punched her.

He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree domestic assault on July 25, 2022, and was sentenced to 100 days in jail.

Other previous convictions against Brewer include resisting arrest, felony possession of a controlled substance, DWI, stealing and burglary.

For the illegal drug possession charge, Brewer pleaded guilty on Feb. 18, 2020, and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation. Probation was revoked March 25, 2022, and he was sentenced to two years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, with credit for time served.
