Tracking extreme heat and strong storms to kick off the weekend

TODAY: Early morning isolated storms have developed and will bring a chance for strong winds and small hail. Shortly after sunrise, we'll likely be eyeing stronger storms moving in from north of Kansas City. This will brush through our northern counties through midday, likely from late morning to early afternoon. This complex of storms may have a severe component to it, of which our greatest risk is isolated wind damage. Heat is still a big concern for Saturday as the heat index tops out at 105 this afternoon, as we've extended our ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day coverage until this evening. Redevelopment of storms is possible late this afternoon likely along and south of I-70, with an isolated severe wind/hail risk.

TOMORROW: Temperatures drop to near seasonal averages, but it will still be hot in the lower 90s. Storms from Saturday may carry into the early part of the day, but the severe risk likely shifts south.

EXTENDED: Next week continues to see heat, though highs remain in the 90s as daily rain chances return. A heat dome fueling this heat could bring a peak in temperatures in the upper 90s late week, but we should remain clear of the triple digits due to rain.
