A Missouri Department of Corrections inmate was charged last week with having a weapon at a correctional center on Sept. 17, 2021.

Steven Smith, 28, is being held at the Randolph County Jail. He was booked into the jail Thursday, according to online records. A court date has not been set.

A DOC employee allegedly saw an unknown offender hand an object to Smith on Sept. 17, 2021, according to the probable cause statement. Smith was eventually placed in restraints by staff and was searched.

A homemade weapon was found in Smith’s shoe and it was sharpened to the point that it was readily made to cause harm, according to the statement.
