COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man charged last year with child sexual abuse was booked into the Boone County Jail early Monday.
Xavier Washington, 34, was charged in December with first-degree sexual abuse of a victim younger than 14 years old and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Dec. 7 with a $100,000 bond. He is currently being held at the Missouri Department of Corrections.
A court date has not been set.
A Benton County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a home on May 8, 2022, for a report of a sexual assault, according to the probable cause statement. The child’s mother had reported the incident to law enforcement. Washington had allegedly been living in Benton County at the time, the probable cause statement says.
The victim had told law enforcement they were assaulted several times over the course of a month , according to the statement. Washington denied the accusations to law enforcement.
The next day, the deputy submitted a hotline report to the Department of Family Services and later attended a safe house interview, where the victim and mother reiterated the same information.
On June 30, 2022, the deputy received a letter from the Department of Social Services indicating that the accusations were likely to be true, according to the probable cause statement.
