JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Chicago man was charged Thursday in relation to an alleged shooting that occurred in Jefferson City nearly three years ago.

Wanya Webb, 24, is charged with armed-criminal action, accessory to unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree accessory to assault. Webb is not in custody, according to the Cole County Jail. A motion hearing was held Friday to raise the confidential level of the probable cause statement.

An initial court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Cole County Circuit Court.

On Dec. 17, 2020, Jefferson City police were called to a residence after the victim claimed someone fired bullets into their residence, the probable cause statement says. The alleged victim and four other people were in the house when bullets came through the window.

The victim allegedly told police one of the guests was a witness in a Columbia homicide investigation, the statement says. Four bullets were allegedly found at the scene. Police learned a white Chevrolet Malibu could have been used and eventually pulled over a vehicle on Stadium Boulevard.

The driver – referred as a witness in the probable cause statement – was the owner of the vehicle and Webb was in the backseat. The statement says police searched the car after having probable cause based off allegedly smelling marijuana. Police found a loaded gun, the statement says.

Webb initially denied involvement and blamed the witness, according to the statement. A gunshot residue kit was obtained and Webb was initially released. On Aug. 4, 2021, the lab report indicated Webb and the area Webb was sitting in the vehicle had gunshot residue, according to the statement.

On Oct. 13, 2022, the witness allegedly gave a statement to police claiming Webb shot two or three rounds from the front passenger seat. They initially told police they didn’t provide that information because Webb had a pending case in Chicago and also had a child, according to the statement.
