Columbia Fire Department puts out two fires Wednesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Fire Department responded and put out two fires Wednesday, several hours apart.

Hardin Street

No people were hurt Wednesday evening, but a dog died in a Columbia house fire in the 800 block of Hardin Street, according fire officials at the scene.

Columbia firefighters were dispatched at 8:20 p.m. and arrived five minutes later. Capt. Ryan Adams, of the Columbia Fire Department, told ABC 17 News that flames were coming from the second floor of the house and was under control quickly.

The fire marshal ruled the fire accidental and the initial estimated damage is $75,000, according to a Thursday morning press release from the Columbia Fire Department.

Crews started to leave the scene before 10 p.m.

A viewer submitted a video of the fire to ABC 17 News that shows at least one room of the second floor on fire.

Marquis Court

The Columbia Fire Department also responded to a call at 5:49 a.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of Marquis Court, according to the release.

Crews found smoke from the front garage area of the two-story duplex-style home.  The crew reported high heat conditions along with flames through the roof of the garage, which was eventually brought under control.

No people were in the home and no injuries were reported. A pet reptile was found and safely rescued, the release states.

The fire was determined to have originated from inside the garage and the cause remains under investigation, the release states. Initial damage is estimated at $75,000.
