Lopez strikes out 12 in shutout sweep over Royals

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals were shut out in Wednesday's series 5-0 against the Twins as Minnesota completes the 3-0 series sweep.

Pablo López pitched his first career shutout, a four-hitter complete with a career-high 12 strikeouts against Kansas City. He managed to retire 15 straight from the third to the eighth inning.

Alec Marsh got the start on the hill for the Royals allowing two earned runs off of three hits in five innings, plus recording five strikeouts. This was his second MLB start.

With the loss, Kansas City sits at 25-62 on the year, 19.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.

Up next - the road trip continues as the Royals start up a four-game series with the Guardians. Game one is set for Thursday at 6:10 p.m.
