Missouri Show-Me State and Senior Games start on Thursday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri Show-Me State and Senior Games kick off in Columbia on Thursday and will have dozens of events heading into the weekend.
According to the game schedule, there will pickleball games at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Cosmo-Bethel Park in Columbia.
The sport of pickleball has been around for a some time. According to usapickleball.org, pickleball was founded in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum in Washington. By 1990, the sport had became national and was being played in all 50 states.
To play in the Missouri State Senior Games, organizers say participants have to be at least 50-years-old.
Organizers say the goal of the Missouri State Senior games is to provide an annual physical fitness event to promote a social, competitive, athletic and recreational activity for older adults.
The Missouri State Senior Games also creates an awareness of the abilities and capabilities of older citizens.
Going into the weekend, on Friday morning there will pickleball and tennis games taking place at Cosmo-Bethel Park. Saturday track and field events will be happening at Battle High School at 8:00 a.m and swimming will be taking place at Hickman High School at 8:30 a.m.
On Sunday, shooting is set to start at 10:00 A.M at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports.
