Sudanese fleeing fighting in their homeland face uncertain future, unsure of return

ASWAN, Egypt (AP) — Tens of thousands of people have fled Sudan to its northern neighbor Egypt, amid brutal fighting between Sudan’s military and powerful paramilitary force. The displaced arrive exhausted after days on the chaotic roads that lead them to the southern Egyptian city of Aswan. Typically a tourist hotspot known for its nearby archaeological sites, it is now seeing a different type of influx. Once in Egypt, the refugees can face steep prices for basic housing and transport, something local aid groups are trying to help with. All have had to leave family members behind, and don’t know when they will be able to go back home.
