Mizzou safety signs with the Chiefs as undrafted free agent
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Former Mizzou standout safety and Rock Bridge alum Martez Manuel confirmed on social media on Saturday night that he has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent.
He said, "All I needed was a chance. Watch this."
The news was first reported by ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler.
Manuel went un-drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City. The only Tiger that did have their name called was defensive end Isaiah McGuire in the fourth round.
The Columbia-native was a constant at MU for quite a few seasons, starting in every game in his junior and seniors year. In 2022, he wrapped up the regular season fourth on the team with 49 total tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and a pass break up. Manuel made five tackles or more in five different, games in his final season.
Manuel was also a long-time leader of his Tiger teammates and was even voted a team captain his senior year.
He came to Mizzou as a three-star recruit and graduate from Columbia's own Rock Bridge High School. He was named first-team all-state and all-district defensive back in his senior season. Manuel helped guide the Bruins to a 9-3 record and an appearance in the district championship game his final year. In that season, he had 112 total tackles, six tackles-for-loss, three interception and five forced fumbles.
