Sheriff: Man fatally shot by deputies in southwest Missouri

KMIZ

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A southwestern Missouri man has been fatally shot by deputies who responded to a convenience store theft Friday morning. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened shortly after Green County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 8:15 a.m. to the store just southwest of Springfield. The store clerk said a woman suspected in the theft had fled to a nearby abandoned house, where deputies arrested her. Deputies also encountered an armed man in the house and say they shot him when he lunged at the deputies. Deputy Paige Rippee says in a news release that the man, identified as 43-year-old Michael Gann of Springfield, died at the scene.
