Man charged with several felonies, allegedly attacked people at house with knife

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia teenager has been charged after he allegedly assaulted multiple people at a south Columbia residence on Tuesday.

Troy Bateman Jr., 18, is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic assault, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and armed-criminal action. He is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. An arraignment was held Thursday at the Boone County Courthouse.

Columbia police spoke with three alleged victims Tuesday. A female who said she was previously in a relationship with Bateman and was with her current partner. She allegedly told police that she and her partner left to run an errand in her vehicle and heard a rumbling sound. She got out of the car and saw her tires were slashed and walked back to the home, when Bateman from behind her with his hand in a coat, according to the probable cause statement.

She ran into the garage and told Bateman to leave. Bateman allegedly slapped her in the face and punched her in the face when she hit the ground, according to the probable cause statement.

Bateman tried to strangle another victim when they walked into the garage.

A third alleged victim went outside and saw Bateman with a knife and one of the other victims with a red face. That third person punched Bateman in the face, according to the probable cause statement and tried to get the knife out of Bateman’s hand. Bateman tried to approach him with the knife, but then punched him again.

The third alleged victim got Bateman on the ground, according to the probable cause statement, and tried to get the knife from Bateman. Bateman cut the male's arm a couple of times before eventually dropping the knife and running away.

Law enforcement observed blood stains on one of the victim’s shirts, cuts on his arm and other injuries to other victims.

The incident caused a polling place at Forum Christian Church to go on lockdown for about 20 minutes.
