Mizzou lands at No. 23 in final AP Poll of the season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

In the final AP Poll of the season, the Mizzou men's basketball team landed at No. 23 in the nation. The ranking comes after MU made history by appearing in the program's first ever SEC Tournament semifinals.

The Tigers will tip off in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon in California. Mizzou earned a No. 7 seed in the Big Dance and will meet No. 10-seeded Utah State on Thursday at 12:40 p.m. in Sacramento in the Round of 64.

The No. 7 seed is MU's highest ranking in the Tournament since 2012. It's also just the fourth time in 29 years that Mizzou has landed higher than a No. 8 seed.

First-year head coach Dennis Gates had lofty goals for his debut season, which included winning the regular season conference championship and the SEC Tournament Championship. Although his team fell short of those, he said playing in the National Championship on Monday, April 3rd in Houston has been a conversation for his team from the start.
