COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man who is accused of killing his wife 17 years ago will go to trial on Monday.
A pre-trial conference was held Tuesday afternoon for Keith Comfort. He is charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $5 million bond. Comfort, 41, will appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Boone County Courthouse, according to Boone County Sheriff's Office online records.
Prosecutors say Comfort told police in 2019 that he killed his wife, Meghan Shultz, who he reported missing with the Columbia Police Department on Aug. 5, 2006.
Comfort allegedly told police that when he arrived at the apartment in the 1700 block of Amelia Street in 2006, Shultz was frantic and swinging her arms. Comfort then allegedly strangled Shultz, and when he realized she wasn’t breathing, he put her body in a garbage bag and put it in the dumpster at the apartment complex.
