COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Marshall woman has been charged and issued a summons in relation to a 2021 Boone County crash that hurt a baby after it was ejected from a vehicle.

Sonniquka McKamey, 30, is charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault and armed-criminal action. An initial appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16 at the Boone County Courthouse.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash at 11:28 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2021, on Highway 40 at Rollingwood Boulevard in Boone County. A 2009 Buick, driven by McKamey, was traveling south on Semon Road and did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection on Highway 40 and collided with another vehicle, according to the probable cause statement.  She did not slow down prior to the crash.

During the crash, a child was ejected from the Buick and suffered critical injuries and was flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. During an investigation, it was determined that the child was “intentionally not properly secured,” according to the probable cause statement.

McKamey and an adult passenger were taken to University Hospital by ambulance. The passenger allegedly told troopers that he was aware the child restraint system was not properly secured to the vehicle. The passenger allegedly said he was holding the child prior to the crash, began falling asleep and then put the baby in the restrain but failed to secure it, the statement says.
