Australian Open director: Djokovic’s hamstring had 3-cm tear

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — The Australian Open tournament director says Novak Djokovic played with a tear in his left hamstring that was more than an inch long along the way to winning the championship. Craig Tiley spoke Wednesday in an interview with SEN Sportsday. Djokovic beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final at Melbourne Park. That gave the 35-year-old from Serbia his 10th Australian Open title and a 22nd Grand Slam trophy overall. Djokovic hurt his hamstring during a tuneup tournament in Adelaide ahead of the Australian Open. He wore a heavy bandage on his left thigh and was visited by trainers during matches. He said he took “a lot” of painkiller pills and did various treatments to help the leg.
