Suspended ex-Missouri judge resigns powerful appointment

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A former Missouri judge has stepped down from a powerful appointment after the Missouri Supreme Court suspended his law license for threatening a political opponent years ago. The Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled unanimously to suspend Philip Prewitt indefinitely. The Governor’s Office says he resigned from the Administrative Hearing Commission shortly after his license was suspended. The Supreme Court found that the Republican threatened a Democratic challenger in hopes of dissuading her from running against him for Macon County associate circuit judge in 2018. Prewitt told the Supreme Court he didn’t do anything wrong.
