Man charged in fire that killed 2 children, his girlfriend

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas man has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after his girlfriend and two children died in a house fire. Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said 32-year-old Kyle J. Tyler, of Topeka, was charged Wednesday with murder and three other counts. The fire at a Topeka house on Jan. 20 killed 30-year-old Genny Fitzpatrick and her daughters, 9-year-old Peyton L. Tyler and 1-year-old Kourtney K. Tyler, all of Topeka. Kagay says firefighters found the home ablaze when they arrived. The three victims were inside and Tyler was found outside on the deck. He is being held on $1 million bond.
