Players unhappy as women’s game off due to frozen field
LONDON (AP) — A top-flight women’s match in England has been abandoned after just six minutes because the field was frozen and it has sparked complaints from managers and players that the league isn’t being taken seriously enough. The referee took Chelsea and Liverpool players off the field shortly after the match began at Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow stadium “in order to protect the safety of the players” according to the league. Players and managers called for stadiums hosting games in women’s soccer to have undersoil heating like in the men’s game. The 12-team WSL is run by the English Football Association. Two other WSL games were postponed because of frozen fields.
