Funeral services scheduled for MU student found dead in fire pit
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A funeral has been announced for the University of Missouri student who was found dead last week in a fire pit behind a house in north Columbia.
Samuel Clemons, 21, was identified by police earlier this week. Clemons was a sophomore studying biological sciences, UM System President Mun Choi said in a message to the campus on Monday.
According to Clemons’ obituary, visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, with a funeral service to follow at Trimble Funeral Homes in Jefferson City. Clemons will be buried at Riverview Cemetery.
Police initially couldn't identify the body because of its condition, police said.
Emma Adams, 20, of Columbia, was charged in relation to Clemons’ death. She is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with evidence and abandoning a corpse. She is being held on a $1 million bond at the Boone County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16.
Adams was charged after police found Clemons' body smoldering in a fire pit on Jan. 11 behind a home on Bentley Court. The investigation started when University of Missouri police officers were called to a dormitory for a wellness check. That call led them to the house.
