Columbia man charged with DWI for September crash, posts bond
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was charged and arrested this week in relation to a September crash on North Providence Road.
Jesus Olgiun, 23, was charged with driving while intoxicated – causing serious injury, second-degree assault and armed-criminal action. He was held on a $50,000 bond at the Boone County Jail on Monday and posted bond the same day.
An initial arraignment hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at the Boone County Courthouse.
On Sept. 22, a vehicle collision occurred at Providence Road near Rogers Street. Olguin was traveling northbound on Providence Road in the right lane in a Dodge Challenger, according to the probable cause statement.
A driver of a white Toyota Corolla was heading westbound on Rogers Street. The driver of that vehicle was brought to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, the probable cause statement said.
Columbia police concluded that the Toyota had a green light to head west onto East Worley Street. When the Toyota crossed the intersection, it was struck by Olguin’s vehicle, which apparently failed to stop at a stop light, according to the statement. The statement says he was traveling 97 miles per hour 5 seconds prior to the collision.
Olguin’s vehicle allegedly swerved into the southbound lanes of Providence Road and hit a residence in the 500 block.
Olguin took a preliminary breath test and his blood-alcohol content was recorded at 0.187, more than double the legal limit in Missouri.
