Tracking light snow tonight, a few slick spots possible by morning

TONIGHT: Light snow moving in after sunset. Snow showers possible through 4:00 a.m. Accumulation between a dusting and 1". Lows in the mid-20s.

TOMORROW: Flurries early with mostly cloudy skies. Cold with temperatures falling to about 20 degrees by afternoon. Wind chills in the lower teens.

EXTENDED:  Clouds have already started to move in, and I'm expecting snow showers to move in from the northwest and slide southeast from about 8 or 9 PM tonight through 4 AM as snow exits through the I-44 corridor before sunrise. Morning travelers might run into some slick spots on local routes, but I'm expecting a dusting to an inch tops for Mid-Missouri. Areas along and east of the Mississippi River could end up with 1-2" by morning. Temperatures should be in the mid-20s by sunrise tomorrow, so road crews will have an easier time salting the roads versus what we saw last week with frigid temperatures. Winds could gust up to 20 mph overnight into tomorrow, keeping wind chills in the single digits for the morning, getting into the teens during the day. Tuesday starts off cold with lows near 10 degrees and wind chills in the single digits, but we start to warm up by afternoon as sunshine returns with highs in the mid-30s. We'll see a major pattern shift for the rest of the week as upper winds switch to the southwest. That will bring temperatures into the 50 degree range for Wednesday, with low 60s expected by Thursday. A cold front moves through on Thursday night, bringing showers to Mid-Missouri through Friday and Saturday as that system stalls out. Temperatures reach the upper 40s to low 50s Friday through Sunday. Rain amounts will be higher across southeast Missouri, but we'll end up with about 0.5" to 1" of rain by Saturday night or Sunday morning.
