Tracking cold air that may stick around a while

TODAY: An overcast day with wind from the west pulling in cold air at around 10-15 mph sustained will usher in a cold and gloomy day with highs in the low-to-mid 30s. Clouds will be low, and have a chance at producing a few flurries, especially north of I-70 in the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Clouds will generally remain overnight, and winds don't change much. Overall, our airmass hardly changes, and we expect lows in the mid-to-upper 20s by early Friday.

EXTENDED: Friday is a continuation of Thursday in most ways with overcast skies, possible flurries, and a high near freezing. More sunshine is possible on Saturday as low clouds may make an exit for some, but we stay in the low 30s. Sunday brings the best shot of sunshine, and a slight warm up into the upper 30s. We stay near 40 on Monday, ahead of a cold front and an approaching system from the southwest. Timing of both of these features will play a large role in what we see on Monday. Generally speaking at this point, we have a chance for light precipitation that may fall as rain, snow, or a mix of the two. This system will be short lived, which would reduce any impact from accumulation. Stay tuned as we get closer to this event, but right now it does not look significant. Cold air continues well into next week, and data is signaling increased confidence in well colder than normal end to next week that may impact Christmas.
