Tracking the exit of rain and the entrance of cold air

TODAY: Today will be sunnier than Thursday, but we're still dealing with clouds from the same system that brought inches of rainfall across the region yesterday. Some high clouds will get pulled in from the southwest through the morning, leaving us progressing from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy through the day. This will bring a chance for showers for some southeast of HWY 54. This rain chance starts around late morning, and is out by the afternoon. Otherwise, it's a mild day, with peeks of sunshine and highs in the mid-to-upper 40s.

TONIGHT: Winds will stay from the south through the day, until a westward shift around the dinner hour. This will cool us rapidly, into the low 30s early Thursday.

EXTENDED: With the wind shift, will come some low clouds from the northwest. These keep us cool, and bring a flurry chance in the afternoon and evening. No accumulations are expected. Highs reach mid-to-upper 30s. Clouds return and cool air influx continues on Friday to keep us in the 30s, and we'll drop a few degrees again on Saturday despite a better chance at sunshine. Dry weather continues on Sunday, but a system is approaching from the south by Monday morning, bringing a chance for wintry weather as it collides with cold air in place over mid-Missouri. At this point, we'll call it a wintry mix, as temperature profiles show it would be a close call between rain and snow IF it actually materializes. Confidence is still extremely low with this, so it's nothing to fret or get excited for. Stay tuned to the forecast for updates as we get closer.
