Teen killed in pedestrian crash on Clark Lane
A teen was killed Monday night after a car hit them while they were walking in the 3600 Block of Clark Lane.
Claudine Nibigira, 17, of Columbia, was pronounced dead on-scene, the Columbia Police Department said.
Lt. Robert Fox said Nibigira was walking on the road when she was hit by a car traveling eastbound. Fox said it was not clear as of Monday night whether she was walking in the driving lane or on the shoulder of the road. Fox said medics believed she died at the scene of the crash.
“It’s a pretty grim scene, but we’ll be working on it for the next hour or so,” Fox said.
Tamara J. Lewis, 44, of Lawrenceville, Georgia was driving the vehicle that hit Nibigira.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected in this incident, police said.
