Bulletproof backpacks sold in mid Missouri

Bulletproof backpacks are an option for parents this back-to-school shopping season.

An Office Depot located in Columbia, Missouri, sells bullet resistant backpacks made by Guard Dog Security in store and online.

The Guard Dog Security ProShield Pro Tactical Laptop Backpack’s description states it has been “independently tested to be impervious to certain gunfire.”

President of Guard Dog, Yasir Sheikh, said he’s seen the demand for bulletproof backpacks increase each year and the 2019 back-to-school shopping season is following the trend.

He said all backpacks have the same IIIA level of bullet resistance and are tested with 9mm handguns, .44 Magnum and some shot gun ammunition.

Parents of elementary, middle and high school students are buying the bullet resistant backpacks for their children,” Sheikh said.

“Something to not only give them the piece of mind, but to give their loved ones that level of protection and safety,” he said.

Backpacks range in price from $119 to $199, according to Office Depot’s website.

Guard Dog Security sells the backpacks in store and online at Office Depot and Office Max. Retailers such as Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Walmart sell the backpacks online.
