Lincoln University moving rebuild of scorched Dickinson Research Center forward

The Lincoln University Board of Curators approved a plan Thursday to rebuild the Dickinson Research Center.

The facility, located at 1219 Chestnut St., was severely damaged in a 2015 fire, which was later determined to be caused by an electrical issue.

“The proposed project is to be supported by insurance proceeds and USDA/NIFA Facilities Grant funding,” said Sandy Koetting, vice president of administration and finance.

Koetting said the board is now in discussions with contractor Curtis Manes Schulte Inc., adding that, “construction of the facility is contingent on the results of the discussions between the University, architect and contractor.”

The budget and funding for the project are broken down in the table below:

USDA/NIFA Facilities funding

$1,180,000

Insurance proceeds

$1,587,570

Total

$2,767,570

“The Board of Curators did not specify a deadline to complete construction,” said LU spokesperson Misty Young. “Completion will be contingent on discussions with the contractor.”

The board also placed the planned construction of an extension office in Sikeston on hold.

“The university will reevaluate the proposal and provide additional information to the Board of Curators at a later meeting,” said Koetting.
