MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office gave an update to a social media post the department made yesterday about a possible "tainted candy" incident.

The Wednesday post warned residents to examine candy received from three trunk-or-treat events in Laurie, Stover and Gravois Mills, which occurred Oct. 29, 30 and 31, respectively.

The Sheriff's Office told ABC17 on Wednesday that a 37-year-old man was the alleged victim. The man's fiancé had allegedly posted about the incident to Facebook. The department told ABC17 there was no any evidence that there was candy that was tampered with.

On Thursday, the department said on its Facebook page that it examined the packaging from the alleged tainted candy and found no evidence of tampering.

The alleged victim was interviewed at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office on Thursday. Other members of his family had eaten the alleged "tainted candy" and nothing happened to them. The man told the department he had been sick for the previous week with the stomach flu, according to the press release.

The man allegedly consumed four pieces of candy that night and became sick to his stomach. He then allegedly told the department he smoked marijuana and began to feel better. The man said he did not begin suffering severe headaches and involuntary movements of his limbs until after smoking, accordint to the release.

The man told the department the marijuana was old.

The Sheriff's Office considers the original report of tampered candy to be unfounded. No other reports about "tainted candy" have been made.
