Documents: Columbia man admitted to editing child porn videos

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested a Columbia man Monday, saying a search of his home turned up several pieces of child pornography.

The evidence includes DVDs containing child porn videos that Gary Osborne, 72, said he edited to add special effects and background music, a patrol trooper wrote in a probable cause statement.

The investigation began in March when a patrol investigator found a network of people online sharing child pornography, according to the statement. The investigator downloaded a file, which led to an IP address connected to Osborne’s computer, the patrol said.

Authorities searched Osborne’s home Monday and found the DVDs, according to the probable cause statement. Osborne told investigators that he had been viewing child pornography since the 1960s and ran an online group in the ’80s and ’90s focused on trading child porn, the patrol said.

Prosecutors charged Osborne with one count of promoting child pornography and three counts of possessing child pornography.

Osborne was arrested Monday and booked in the Boone County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond. He had an initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon. No attorney was listed for Osborne in online court records.
