Columbia fire crews respond to residential structure fire early Saturday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo.

Saturday around 5:25 a.m, the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of South Eastwood Circle and Business Loop 70 for a reported residential structure fire.

Columbia Fire said they got multiple reports and calls from drivers traveling along I-70 saying they could see the flames from the highway.

Firefighters told ABC 17 crews when they arrived on scene they saw a vehicle and the garage of the home fully engulfed in flames.

Captain Ryan Adams with the Columbia Fire Department said, crews had some difficulty getting to different parts of the home due to materials being in the way but they were able to contain the fire around 6:45 a.m.

Crews remained on scene for several hours throughout the morning for clean up.

After investigating, crews determined the fire was accidental and the fire that started in an attached garage caused an estimated of $120,000 in damage.

South Eastwood Circle and Business Loop 70 was closed down for several hours while crews investigated.

No injuries were reported, according to CFD.
