Police release name of man arrested after central Columbia standoff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police on Wednesday released the name of the man they arrested after a standoff the night before in central Columbia.
Officers arrested Christopher J. Crane, 32, of Columbia after the approximately three-hour standoff in the 600 block of Lyon Street near Douglass Park. Crane was jailed on suspicion of domestic assault, kidnapping, violating a protection order and felony resisting arrest, the Columbia Police Department said in a news release.
"Douglass Park can be a really nice place sometimes and then as soon as the sun goes down you know whatever happens..happens you know it just kinda gets out of control," said Columbia resident Thomas Wolfe on Tuesday night.
Prosecutors charged Crane with second-degree and third-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, two counts of violating a protection order and resisting arrest.
Crane remained in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday morning. He also had warrants for failure to appear on traffic violations and a parole violation, according to jail and court records. He was being held without bond.
Police were sent to Lyon Street on a call of a hostage situation at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Police went to the house after a female texted a friend that she was not being allowed to leave, according to an officer at the scene.
Police later got into the building through an open door and arrested Crane. Part of Lyon Street was shut down during the standoff.
Crane is also suspected of domestic assault, kidnapping, harassment and violating protection orders in connection with a Sept. 22 incident, police said Wednesday.
Crane was transferred Wednesday to Missouri Department of Corrections custody. A department spokeswoman said he arrived at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
