MU students report harassment to police

Two University of Missouri students reported to campus police that they were “verbally harassed” this week while walking off campus, MU’s chancellor wrote in an email to the campus.

The students reported being harassed by three people, Chancellor Alexander Cartwright wrote. He did not give details about the alleged harassment, but said MUPD is investigating using resources including video surveillance cameras.

“We absolutely will not tolerate harassment or intimidation,” Cartwright wrote. “In accordance with our values as a university, we work diligently every day to create a welcoming environment for everyone — every student, every employee. Our value of Respect is a key component of this work.”

ABC 17 News has contacted a spokesman for the university seeking more information and requested an incident report. An MUPD spokeswoman said police will release no more information because the incident is under investigation.
